TQS – A young company with a long tradition
1910 - Founding of Deutsch-Englische-Quarzschmelze GmbH
The history of TQS dates back to 1910, when the company was founded in Berlin under the name Deutsch-Englische-Quarzschmelze GmbH. Initially, the company focused on manufacturing quartz products for the emerging chemical industry, which was still in its infancy at the time.
1957 – Move to Mainz
In 1957, the company moved to Mainz and entered into a joint venture with the British company TSL – Thermal Syndicate Ltd. and Jenaer Glaswerke Schott+Genossen. The company operated under this model until 1965. After being completely taken over by the TSL Group, TQS relocated its headquarters to Wiesbaden and from then on was known as TQS – Thermal Quarz-Schmelze GmbH. In Wiesbaden, the focus was on the continuous development of infrared quartz heaters and optical quartz glass, always maintaining close cooperation with customers in order to jointly drive innovation and improvement.
1988 - Acquisition of the TSL Group by Saint-Gobain
In 1988, the entire TSL Group was acquired by the French Saint-Gobain Group. From 2000 onwards, the company was known as Saint-Gobain Quartz GmbH. A significant milestone was the management buyout in 2009, which restored TQS®’s legal independence and saw it continue under the name TQS – Technical Quartz Solutions GmbH.
2015 – VS Technical Supplies GmbH acquired 100% of the shares in TQS®
The last major step in the company’s history took place in 2015, when VS Technical Supplies GmbH from Frankfurt acquired 100 percent of the shares in TQS®. Today, the company is managed by Mr. Volker Schmidt and looks back with pride on more than 100 years of history characterized by innovation and customer focus.
